Eyes on the Stupa, Swayambhunath

Swayambhunath is an ancient Buddhist pagoda a top hill in the west of Katmandu city, Nepal. It is also known as the “Monkey temple” as there are holy monkeys living in parts of the temple.

The Gaura Festival.

It is a group of women working together whose collective efforts not only make this festival continue for centuries but also serves as an example of unity to the young generation.

This is a tradition of the Far Western Region, began to be celebrated in the Kathmandu valley just five years ago. The festival in the capital now also marks an occasion to gather the people living in the valley from the Far Western region together. Not only did they get to dance hand in hand


with people of their region, they also got a taste of the delicacy from their region like Batuk Chukani, Mada and many other delicious food.
The most important part of the festival is the fasting, which women start from the eve of Gaura to this evening. They fast for the good health of their husband and children. It is also believed that this festival will bring more celebrations and also marks that rainy season
